Magalotti started brewing beer in 1845 in Terni. It produced beer, ice, lemonade and other drinks using the water passing inside the walls of the ancient town, near Porta Sant’Angelo, and the numerous springs of the area. It was one of the first breweries in Italy and one of the most thriving firms in Terni.
Wood barrels of beer were delivered by wagons drawn by horses. Drinking it during the holydays became a nice habit not only of the inhabitants of Terni. At the height of production, Magalotti’s products were known and drunk all over the present province to Terni and beyond .
The firm is mentioned in a leaflet made by Alterocca Printings in 1899, quoting the most important and thriving industrial business in town and in its surrounbding area concerns of the town and its surroundings. It closed down in 1936 but all those who tasted its well-known products cannot forget it.
In 2000 three friends, with a passion for history, discovered this production and decided to give back life to this old brand. The second life of Magalotti beer had begun: after 64 years one of the first Italian beers revived! Many citizens of Umbria who know it are proud of it. In the following years the origin of this beer was the focus of an intense research and the production and distribution techniques were studied with care.
In 2007, thanks to the agreement between Magalotti and Schloss Eggenberg, a brewery whose main target is quality, Magalotti beer comes back on the market in order to revive and promote Magalotti brand as a value of Terni and Umbria.
Magalotti Beer has been growing in the market.
